Addison Aware: Non-Intrusive Wi-Fi Monitoring

Sep 9, 2025

At Electronic Caregiver, we’re always looking for ways to give families peace of mind without interrupting the daily lives of the people they care for. That’s why we invited our partners at Cognitive Systems Corp., the creators of the non-intrusive ambient sensing technology behind Addison Aware, to share more about how it works.

When you hear words like “monitoring” or “tracking,” it’s easy to imagine something intrusive, like a security camera watching every move, a microphone recording conversations, or a device your loved one has to wear and remember to charge. That image can make new technology feel overwhelming or even a little unsettling. Addison Aware Wi-Fi Monitoring works differently. It uses Wi-Fi Motion, a technology that turns the Wi-Fi signals already moving through a home into a motion-sensing network. The system quietly observes changes in how those signals shift when someone moves through a home.

What Addison Aware Notices

Addison Aware focuses on activity and patterns, not personal details. For example:

  • If your mom gets up at 7:00 every morning and heads to the kitchen for coffee, the app will register that activity. If one day she hasn’t left her bedroom by 9:00, you’ll receive a gentle alert so you can check in.
  • If your dad has a consistent bathroom routine at night, and the system notices more frequent trips, you can address it early, before it becomes a bigger health issue.
  • If your loved one is usually active in the living room during the afternoon, but over time you notice less movement in that space, it could point to a change in their routine and give you a reason to check in.

The system also compiles easy-to-read trend reports. Over the course of a week, you can see at a glance whether activity levels are changing, wake times are shifting, or other subtle changes occur that might merit a conversation.

What Addison Aware Does NOT Observe

It’s just as important to know what the system doesn’t notice:

  • No cameras. There are no images or videos of your loved one.
  • No microphones. It cannot record voices or background sounds.
  • No personal content. It does not collect phone calls, texts, internet activity, or other private information.

The system only tracks movement in the rooms you choose, and it’s fully customizable so you and your loved one can decide together which spaces to monitor. This way, you stay in control of what’s observed and when, tailoring it to your family’s needs.

Addison Aware Wi-Fi Monitoring For Seniors

Why Seniors and Caregivers Love Addison Aware

Many seniors worry that new technology will feel invasive or disrupt their daily routines. Addison Aware Wi-Fi Monitoring was designed to do the opposite. Addison Aware notices patterns of movement—not personal details—so seniors can feel safe and comfortable in their own homes. Wi-Fi Motion was born from a personal mission. Cognitive’s co-founder and CEO, Dr. Tajinder Manku, created the technology after caring for his own parents and experiencing firsthand the challenge of balancing safety with dignity. The result is a privacy-first sensing system that quietly works in the background without cameras, microphones, or wearables. It turns everyday Wi-Fi signals into insights about activity, sleep, and routines—helping families spot changes early, from restless nights to missed morning activity. By combining Cognitive’s innovative Wi-Fi Motion technology with Electronic Caregiver’s commitment to empowering aging in place, Addison Aware delivers care that’s proactive, private, and deeply personal. It helps seniors keep their independence while giving families the peace of mind that comes from knowing they’ll be notified if something changes.
